World Cup schedules and location information is available for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Sixty-four soccer matches will be played in ten stadiums and nine host cities throughout South Africa including Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, and Rustenburg.

A total of three million tickets will be available for the 2010 World Cup. One third of the tickets will be allocated to South African local fans, one third to International fans, and one third to sponsors, teams and the FIFA family. As in previous years the demand for tickets is expected to exceed supply leaving many World Cup fans unable to obtain tickets for the matches. Plan ahead (and check) frequently for World Cup ticket availability.

Tickets for the FIFA World Cup will be available in four price categories according to the location of the seats in the stadium. Category 1 are the most expensive and category 4 are the least expensive. Each of the ten World Cup stadiums is individually configured so the seating category arrangements may vary from venue to venue.
  • Category 1 is generally located in the straight section between the two goal lines or the pitch.

  • Category 2 is generally located adjacent to Category 1.

  • Category 3 is generally located behind the goals or in one of the corners.

  • Category 4 is generally located behind the goals or in one of the corners.

FIFA has recently stated that they feel the German ticketing system is much too complicated and that they plan to do their own ticket distribution for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Criticising the strict German controls, Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA says that it has already been decided. FIFA will take charge of the 2010 World Cup ticketing. They are already in advanced discussions with the South African government that will give the 2010 World Cup the most comprehensive anti-touting legislation and controls, including giving police the right to confiscate a touted ticket.

The Football World Cup, organized by the Federation Internationale de Football Association FIFA the sport's governing body - is the most important competition in international football (soccer). The World Cup Final is the most widely televised and viewed major sport event in the world.

The World Cup finals tournament is held every four years, but the World Cup competition itself actually takes place over a two-year period. Over one hundred sixty national teams compete in regional qualifying tournaments for a place in the finals. The World Cup finals tournament now involves thirty-two national teams from two hundred four FIFA countries competing over a four week period in a host nation nominated by the FIFA.

The World Cup tournaments so far have been held nine times in Europe, four times in Latin America, two times in Central America, once in North America and once in Asia (Korea & Japan). The 2006 World Cup was Germany's second time hosting the World Cup since 1974. The 2010 World Cup will be South Africa's first time hosting the FIFA World Cup.

·         The 2010 FIFA World Cup emblem is a symbol of hope depicting the energy and vigour of the South African nation. The inspiration for the football figure on the high-tech emblem is said to have come from from Khoi-San rock paintings.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup will take place in South Africa. It is the 16th country and the first ever African country to host this prestigious event. 10 Stadiums were constructed specifically for this occasion and 9 South African cities including Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, and Rustenburg will host the World Cup. 32 National football teams from 6 FIFA Confederations will represent the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. A total of 64 World Cup matches will be played over a period of 25 days.

World Cup Locations

South Africa will host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. 64 Matches will be played in 10 stadiums located in 9 different South African cities. These include Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria and Rustenburg.

2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Host Cities and Stadiums

The Greenpoint Stadium (African Renaissance Stadium) in Cape Town, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, the Kings Park Stadium (King Senzangakhona Stadium) in Durban, and the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit will be newly constructed for the 2010 World Cup. The Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, the Soccer City Stadium, and the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg will be modernised and expanded. The Final is likely to be played at the 80,000 capacity Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
